Stifling Shame
Your guards stand, strong and tall
Their shields are barriers
In your mind
In your emotions
They promise safety
Swearing by unwavering protection
Words believed to be true
Most days, they are
Then come the days they take off
β
Youβre left alone
Trying to be unstoppable
Yet, the vulnerability sets in
Something breaks
An exposed truth
Memories you never meant to share
Facts and lies
Traits and misbeliefs
Pride and shame
And somehow, the shame wins
It smothers
It destroys
Every belief you worked to build
Every lie you tried to rewrite
Shame tells convincing stories
It is heavy
Hard to hold
It steals your breath
It makes the truth go quiet
It makes the false roar
β
Shame tears at the roots of progress
It is relentless
It is asphyxiating
Until you name it

Indeedβ¦This liminal space is not lost on me. The only thing new is the naming of the pain. It is a place of contraction and expanseβ the tension between the Soul and the ego within. A confusing, uncomfortable place where the truth lives and speaks.
